Being fully mobile, our vets are happy to carry out all examinations and diagnosis, investigations and treatment on your own premises.
Check the detailed information on the appropriate pages.
We have a direct digital radiography (X ray) system which allows us to take x-rays on site, instant images available at the time on the computer screen. This allows us to make a quicker diagnosis without the need for developing x-ray film. The quality of image is also far superior therefore allowing even more accurate diagnosis.
The practice has a high quality Ultrasound Scanner to investigate soft tissue injuries such as:- tendons, ligaments, joints and other musculoskeletal disorders causing lameness as well as being able to scan abdomens and chests.
Two other ultrasound Scanner are used for reproductive work allowing us to scan mares to allow covering by a stallion or artificial insemination at the correct time and also for pregnancy detection in the early stages of the mare being in foal.
The practice possesses a 1.7 m Endoscope which allows us to visualize both the upper and lower respiratory tracts of horses, ponies and foals including the guttural pouches. This allows us to investigate any abnormal respiratory noise and any abnormal nasal discharge or coughing in a horse. We can also take a tracheal wash which involves sampling the discharge from the lungs and submitting this for laboratory analysis to check for signs of respiratory disease and the bacteria involved. We are also able to endoscope bladders to investigate urinary problems.
As well as performing routine dental tooth rasping we have a power tooth rasp which allows us to carry out remedial dental work, including removing overgrowth’s, tooth hooks and correcting wavy mouths. Horses may require sedation, and usually tolerate this quite well.
The practice has a mobile shock wave machine. This is a recent innovation for treating musculoskeletal disorders i.e. lameness and back problems. A high powered focused acoustic wave is generated through the tissue which when treating injuries has an action which both stimulates healing and has a pain killing effect. We have used the shock wave machine to treat a wide range of injuries including foot lameness, tendon and ligament injuries, joint problems, back and sacroiliac (pelvic) disorders.
The practice also has an ECG machine to investigate heart abnormalities.
The practice is happy to provide impartial vetting services for pre-purchase and insurance purposes.
Should your horse require surgery or hospitalisation we are happy to refer them to one of the local equine hospitals with which we have close relationships. We can also refer further afield depending on the particular case and surgeons’ specialty.
We are also able to use the services of Tim Brazil PhD MRCVS whose company Equine Medicine on the Move operates a mobile equine medicine consultancy service. This allows us to perform gastroscopy (endoscoping stomachs to look for the presence of ulcers); heart scans (to investigate causes of poor performance or to investigate suspicious heart murmurs) and also a medicine consultancy service to any equine medical cases.
